Background: | CD164, also known as endolyn, is a type I transmembrane protein with heavily glycosylated extracellular part containing sialic acid and glycosaminoglycan residues. CD164 plays both adhesive and antiadhesive role and serves as a potent negative regulator for CD34+ CD38- hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. It has also been reported to be involved in myogenic differentiation and cancer metastasis. The adhesive and negative regulatory functions seem to depend on different posttranslational modifications of CD164 protein. |
